Brown Chinese Geese

Brown chinese geese are one often refered to as the most graceful of all geese. With a black beak and the most intreicate feather colouring combining both white and brown, they truly are magnificent birds.

Brown chinese geese along with the African geese origionated in Asia, from the Swan Goose. They are one of the lightest breeds of geese in Australia, although with their long neck and upright body they do not look very light. Brown chinese geese have a rather loud call, not typical of the usual 'honk' noise made by the grey lag  descendants.

The brown chinese are one of the best natured geese, all geese if raised right will have a good nature, i believe the chinese are in a league of their own. My Brown chinese love to talk, and whenever they see you will have a gaggle at you. I had a family of brown chinese at a show, the six of them recognised my engine noise and immeadiately sent out a volley of honks, deafening anyone in the pavilion.

Brown chinese were on the endangered list in Australia. They are now stable, with quiet a few breeders taking them on board.

Brown Chinese geese mate for life, and need to be in a pair situation. Brown Chinese geese can lay up to 100 eggs per season, however in my experience 40-50 is the avarage, if you remove the eggs as they are laid.

Pros and Cons of Brown Chinese Geese
PROS
CONS
Lovely personality, love people and love to honk.
Can be loud, not ideal for a 'town block'.
Light breed and are easy to manage.
Tend to be cheeky, Seem to get bored.
Love their grass, eccelent mowers.
Follow on from point before - occasionally get into the garden, don't eat the plants,
just play with them.
Still not a huge ammount available in Australia, need more preserving work.
Getting new blood lines can be hard if you want to breed for showing.
Are good mothers, i find them to be very good foster parents also.
Can not be crossed with Grey Lag descendants - Young will be infertile.
