Pommeranian Saddleback Geese

Pommeranian geese are a new breed in Australia, and not yet included in our poultry standard. The Pomms are considered to be one of the most striking breeds, and rate as one of my favourite breeds.

Early reports say that they were devolped in Germany around 1550, making them quiet an old breed.  True Pomms can be hard to find, with the saddleback pattern often apearing in cross breed geese.

Pommeranians were initially breed for meat, and rank as a medium sized bird.
Saddleback ganders should weigh around 8kg and the goose a little over 7kg. Pomms should have a red/orange bill, and have a stunning mid blue eyes.

They are a freindly breed of geese, and will often treat visitors with a volley of honks. Saddlebacks make eccelent pets and need concerving in Australia.

Pommeranian are good egg layers with some saying up to 60eggs a year.

PROS
CONS
Very friendly breed, like to be vocal, honk is not too invasive.
Hard to obtain, very hard to find new blood, even harder to get show birds.
Nice looking bird.
Can tend to be a bit flighty until tamed.
Good egg layers, also good for meat production - maturing quickly.

Saddlebacks are still in very short supply, and it is best if you pre-order any birds you would like.
Please note we sell our young geese in Pairs or Ganders only. As a general rule we do not sell girls on their own.
